Overview
Tetris Plus 2 is a falling-block puzzle game developed and released by Jaleco (under license from Bullet-Proof Software) for arcades (using their Mega System 32 hardware) in Japan on June 14, 1997, with an alternate worldwide PCB version released sometime after.
The sequel to Tetris Plus, Tetris Plus 2 revamps all three game modes with new gameplay mechanics and game progression:
- In Endless Mode, players now progress through stages, revealing pieces of a background picture by making larger line clears. Additionally, the picture can be revealed by clearing special square blocks (each having a letter that corresponds to the picture's word).
- In Puzzle Mode, players can now choose to play as the more agile Assistant. Additionally, the characters can now get caught in immobilizing and fatal traps, and players can use the third button to use a Bomb to break blocks and traps near the character. The branching path system is also updated.
- In VS Mode, players can now choose between Classic, Professor, and Assistant variants, with the first variant using traditional Tetris rules. In this mode, special square blocks now have numbers on them, which add additional lines of garbage blocks when used to clear.
Unlike the original Tetris Plus, this game has not received any home conversions since its release.
