Another great entry!

I've enjoyed the Warhammer stuff that leans into the over the top ridicilousness of the setting, without veering fully into wackiness — which I guess is mostly Vermintide/Darktide, in my experience. I suppose Boltgun also hits that tone somewhat. Might be the case for Total Warhammer? With such a deluge of Warhams, inevitably some of it is probably uh, something. I provide only the expertest of analysis, folks. Bet.

"I need to reiterate how relieved I was that this game wasn't abjectly wretched likeBlack Fireor mildly annoying likeThunderstrike 2."

Hey, no shame in it, when you are parched and dehydrated, even a pint of piss goes down smooth. I mean there's barely any yellow tint to it! Practically water.

Hahh, I've buckled up for the upcoming 3DO excursion! Do your worst/best, Trip.

Impressed with how productive and effecient you are, blasting through so much stuff and writing several features in a consistently entertaining voice, in a way that feels effortless! I'm sure it's not quite effortless, in fact. Fab work!

"floating through space in a most peculiar way"

Hahahh, don't think you can sneak that one past me! Stellar.

I've played some of these, but only finished* Small Radios, even though my patience for confused clicking/wandering can be somewhat limited. I suppose the atmosphere/aesthetics mainted its grip on me — a bit of that spice can go a long way. (And it is at most a couple of hours) I was also disheartened by the WBG debacle, but fortunately it seems like they reversed course on the delisting? Well, made a statement to that effect, at least — I'd trust the Zaz about as far as I can throw him. (...Actually, now there's an idea! Know any local Roadrunners to punt his ass into a canyon?)

*Well, in the sense that you can, I did also finish Everything. Which is why I no longer have anything to do, hey-oh. I am less of a collectivore, but I did have a nice little "Zen" experience with it. Oddly enough there was a period years ago when Mountain was part of my morning routine. I was, uh, in kind of a weird place, can you believe it.

Yes, fab write-up! I haven't played the games — don't think they're quite for me — but it's really nice to read about y'all's personal connection to the series. Thanks for including the video clips as well, good stuff! Agree that it feels directed & ghostwritten by aliens. Certain parts of the third game seem almost intentionally player hostile, but perhaps we can chalk the design eccentricity up to aliens as well.

Currently been indulging my nostalgia by playing the certified N64 classic *checks notes* ... Bomberman Hero? ok listen he's a childhood hero to me, dammit!

Really been enjoying this HL retrospective — Excellent work, as usual! Even though I consider myself a Half-Lifer I never played these two Gearbox expansions. However, I am curious about the Black Mesa mod remake.(it's mods all the way down!)

Great review! Timeless indeed — I first played this a few years ago, and it holds up even without nostalgia. Even cultureless plebs like me can appreciate it! (Though I suppose a little nostalgia is inevitably involved when experiencing retro games)

Indeed, terrific write-up! I was broadly aware of some of this, but it is effective and illuminating, seeing it all laid out like this. Important stuff to keep in mind.

Good piece! Appreciate the context & history. It does behoove us to remember that it's not all fun and games when actual human beings are involved and impacted.

How about that, huh. Unrelated: how do you usually go about sharpening your guillotine

I belive the french term is "shréddæux au gnarrevoîre, mon ami!"

Kinda wanted to make a allusion to Darkened Skye vis-à-vis Zool and candy branding but it's not quite the same situation. just lemme mention Darkened Skye, okay!

... "Sucking does not kill," huh. Guess I've been doing it wrong.

My god... Of course. This was the plan all along!! The Mastermind, always one dimension ahead. Truly, the brilliance of Tallarico knows no bounds. True faith is rewarded. Amicos ascend.

[Thank you for your continued vigilance. These screeds rants perfectly hinged Amico updates are always a blast to read!]
