Shigechi's a nice kid, but his greediness tends to blow things out of proportion. I like when he pals around with Josuke and Okuyasu, so it's a shame that a lottery ticket causes their relationship to explode. It's a volatile situation that can combust at any moment.
Because Crazy Diamond can reverse damage, protagonists and innocent bystanders can get seriously messed up without lasting consequences (mostly). It means more opportunity for body horror, like melting into meat cubes. The tension comes from Josuke being unable to fix himself. It also becomes an objective for the antagonists to strategically separate the healer from party, like any good RPG player.
I'm not the biggest fan of Rohan, but he's a great foil for Josuke. And Heaven's Door is such an interesting stand. The mechanics of its abilities provide a framework for all sorts of nontraditional battles. Probably among my favorites in creative use of rulesets to develop elaborate scenarios that unfold in satisfyingly twisty ways.
The electric chicken is one of the weakest antagonists, so I appreciated the extended tangent into struggle meals. I used to do a weird thing with toast when I was younger. I'd take off the crusts, peel it apart into 2 halves, then flip the surfaces so the toasty sides were in the middle and the fluffy sides were out. It was texture thing.
I greatly enjoy how Okuyasu's straightforward simpleness let's him cut the Gordian Knot and knock out Akira without needing to find out who was who. Seems like Jeff's trying to get some cheap heat by ragging on the good boy. Truly trollish tactics.
Let's Go Eat Some Italian Food is my favorite single episode of JoJo. I absolutely love Okuyasu's wild swings from dismissive anger to eloquent euphoria to grotesque body horror to ecstatic relief. Josuke plays the perfect skeptical straightman, and punching the suspicious spaghetti is an iconic out-of-context scene. It's hilarious, disturbing, creative, suspenseful, and weirdly informative; the best elements of JoJo condensed into a tight twenty minutes.
Hmm, didn't take Jeff to be a yandere fan. I'm somewhat indifferent to Yukako, but if people like a scoop of "Misery" in their romance, more power to them.
At the end of the first One Piece Color Walk artbook, Eiichiro Oda interviewed Akira Toriyama. It's very clear that Oda greatly admired him, from his illustrations (particularly for mechanical designs) to his storytelling and characters. Oda said he was like a god from a different dimension, but Toriyama was quite humble and self-effacing. I'd like to believe he knew how influential he was, but it didn't go to his head. A true legend.
The discussions for Jo Jo are much more enjoyable to me than the other shows so far. The wackiness is such good fodder for interesting banter and side tangents. It's nice to take a breather between parts, but this really brings out the best from everyone.
I was dying at Jeff's impression of John. A+ stuff.
It's wild how hard Araki goes to make Angelo an absolute monster. It's probably to justify Josuke damning him to eternal torment. But still, what a despicable piece of shit.
"I Want You" is my favoriting ending theme. As a 90s kid, it hits right in the nostalgia center of my brain.
It's great that Jeff can be the uncontested heatsink for ridicule. Totally deserves to get clowned on.
