"I don't know how thermodynamics work" says man who recently educated Dan Ryckert on the very subject!
Nintendo is stuck in handheld form factor but only so long as they rely on the Switch name. If they go with a different name they would have more freedom, but as Jan stated, they've put themselves in this for quite some time (though I would be excited to see a new console in the vein of a GameCube from them).
We should ALL want optical drives included on systems (and PC). It's much more consumer friendly in the long run. Also, how big of a % is the digital sales for games that are NOT available for physical purchase anymore (which makes up 2 categories, those with only digital releases and those that are aged out yet available online thanks to Steam and GOG). I really wish Giant Bomb would push the consumer rights side of things more instead of the shrugging "this is just the way things are going".
Saying maybe they will have to do something different with F-Zero made me instantly think of some marketers trying to sell the idea of a reboot of the series confusingly turned into an extraction shooter. I think Nintendo has enough self-control to avoid that at least.
Sorry to hear about the bugs that were reported, but outside of that this may be one of the most exciting spotlights yet for me. So glad TNT style shows are returning and am through the moon about the return of Forking! Tell me that Arcade Pit is returning and I may be left with no choice but to go play the lottery, haha! Thanks for the updates as always!
Sorry for spamming a month+ old episode, but you guys may be (slightly) off on your discussion about the Series S and the split-screen situation. You compared it to a Camry and said it's not like you can go off-roading in one, which is true; but since when is split screen an equivalent feature? The equivalent would be if Toyota sold it's base model of Camry without any other seats except for the driver's seat. People likely purchased the S over the X because of the cost and their own finances; not just because it was cheaper. The sad truth of the matter is that this will be a decision most people don't care about because it only impacts a minority - a sentence that is sadly true in so many things in life - and not because it was the right decision. (for transparency, I don't own a current XBox, so this isn't me being one of the aforementioned fanboys).
"Game preservation is important to us" says executive making decision to prevent future preservation options with word salad that doesn't actually explain why such a decision was necessary.
Is there actual market data showing people moved from consoles to mobile? I'm curious how that would compare to moving from console to PC (which is what I did).
I'm a long-time GB fan, but I wanted to express my respect for the consistency that you guys have talked about VG company layoffs beyond just the headlines. Too many other places say it, do thoughts & prayers and move on to the next story. People on GB always make me feel like you understand the impact and recognize where the problem really is.
