Very necrod thread just to warn people. but a worthwhile topic to discuss. Needless to say there are a lot of us with social anxiety and a fear of playing with strangers because of a desire not to ruin their fun/get yelled at for not being good/ whatever your specific reasoning is.

Had I not been dumping something like eighty hours now into Pathfinder Wrath of the righteous I would likely be playing this.

I did see some coverage of it over on YouTube on a channel I was following for the Pathfinder game I mentioned, who after one hundred percenting the game gave it some pretty high praise. It does seem like it will allow for a variety of styles including stealth and persuasion versus all-out combat, it's got several interesting seeming companions, and the story is not without its Merit and interests although I wouldn't say it's a game of the year writing material it will keep you invested seemingly.

The only thing they noted specifically I recall is that the wing you choose your character to be a part of does have character and story implications, however it's more like picking a race or background in a fantasy game as opposed to a organization or faction, though I am sure you could play to said organization/wings beliefs and focus.

But it's more like, if you were raised on a farm, you'd know more about that even if you don't have to believe the same things the "farmer faction" does or support them. Though I did make that example up.

It also seems to split skills between combat and non-combat in a useful manner and the report I'm basing this off of said that both were viable has to complete the game as I said.

Vince's constant attempts not to let talent get over if he doesn't want them too, to me, is just a sign that he is deeply afraid of losing control of things again. It's not that he doesn't want people getting over per say, its that he doesn't want them "having control over him." meaning the ability to negotiate strong, or have a say in creative or so on.

Vince wants to get paid to book a show for himself, and him alone. Its why they seem so antagonistic to their audience/fan base all the time..because they are. Fan's taking control/having a say over things is just as anathema to what Vince wants as a talent who is so popular they can set their own terms and conditions.

Plenty of stuff wrong about Vince, but his extreme fear/toxic desire to never relinquish control to anyone ever is just part of who he seems to be. Like, a fundamental part of his personality to the point where you can vaguely predict every single thing he does based on it. He only breaks character when we are talking someone who has, somehow, earned his respect, and even then.

Say Lesnar for example. Yes, you could say Vince lets Brock walk all over him in terms of setting his terms and making him pay out the nose. But looking at it another way, Vince is able to buy Brock, own him in a sense. That's something Vince loves doing too. He gets, apparently, a kinda nasty/toxic pleasure from feeling like he's got ownership/control/superiority over someone because he is paying them. Brock plays right into that in the "pay me pin me" mentality, so even he is not an acception to my personal view of Vince's character.

@kunakai: Point being, for every patreon you can name that has very little content on their tiers and is just a way of donating to a cause/person you want to support, I can find just as many that are way more generous, or non patreon things which are.

Example, I am subscibed to the wrestling Observer, which for 10$ a month includes dozens of podcasts a week, and a newletter. Plenty of people will say I am being scammed, and its professional wrestling focused so not for everyone, but when you compare what I am paying to access there? Its miles worse.

Even so, I am just playing "Oh yah I can counter example you so there!" The point is not "The duders MUST have more stuff on patreon. The point is "I think it's reasonable for some of us to think they need too for it to be worth 10$ a month or whatever to support them". People are pushing back at the mere mention that the patreon tiers are lacking in content for the asking price, and I am just rightly pointing out that the point can be valid.

@haz_kaj: I have, and the other duder isn't wrong. 5 dollars for just ad free, and 10 dollars for a single weekly podcast is really lacking in terms of content. Compare that to what you get with GB, even now. Compare that to what you get paying for other premium podcast services.

Like, I get a large part of this is "I'm just wanting to support the duders" and that's cool. But when I can name a bunch of other patreons and premium podcasts that offer way more for the same (or even less) money, I think it is fair criticism to question the value.

If they put the "kinda like the hotspot they started during the pandemic" premium podcast at the 5$ tier, ok now we talking. If they add more content to the various tiers in the future, again now we are talking. But as is? Its bare bones as heck. Like, just compare it too the recent waypoint patreon, they are offering more content for similar prices right?

I don't think it's a step too far at all to say this is great news, and a lot of us are gonna support them even if all we are doing is wanting them to do well and so putting our money up to see that happen. But in terms of bonus stuff offered, it is pretty lacking.

It's the question most of us have in the back of our heads yah? It seems like for sure they are saying (See Rorie's response above) that they are not gonna cease to exist though. It's not the end of GB for sure.

Wether it is the "End of GB as we formly knew them?" I mean from the outside looking in there is no way to know. When they announce whatever it is they are going to announce about the future, we can make up our mind then. Either whatever the new stuff for GB will be worth paying premium for, or it won't. Same as it always has been.

As someone who has not been watching New Japan religiously or even much at all the bullet club stuff and AEW doesn't bother me, though I can get being tired of it if you have been a regular of new Japan.

That's said I was not a fan of the Young Bucks turn since now they and the good Brothers seem to serve much the same purpose, being a heel tag team in line with the current heel champion. Like where is the match between the two teams that has been teased? I do think they probably will make better heels and they have baby faces because in the brief time I have watched them regularly, being since aew started, they don't come off as great actors. Great in-ring professional wrestlers for sure, but I just have to think back to the failure that was most of the build for Bucks versus FTR to remember why I think they're not great at getting their characters over and promos and such at least as baby faces.

If the scuttlebutt for how they came out for the house show over Mania weekend is any indication of what we can expect, perhaps they will feel more at ease being heels and subsequently give us better character work and storyline progression. I might think them turning heel doesn't make much sense but if it leads to better stories overall I'll accept it.

Dungeons of Dredmore and TOME are the ones I tend to point people too myself. Mainly because they can both be played with a mouse. Neither are perfect, but in terms of good games to try out the genre in they are both decent.

In terms of 'pure rogue like" Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is perhaps the one I hear the most about/seems to get the most play and suggestion as a fantastic newbie experience while still being very indepth and etc. If there was going to be one game I would suggest Vinny/Ben play after this Rogue series, if they still want a very similar game but to take a look at a more modern take, that would be it.

In terms of interesting twists on the formula, Caves of Qud is perhaps the one I've seen the most interesting stuff from. Its got a set story, world building, lore, quests and so on. Its still got procedural generation, but the major locations/quests are static.

@bigsocrates: Oh yah, if your a big fan of the IP then perhaps that is what I was missing. The concept of no one getting a happy ending in Night City, of Johnny SIlverhand being the patron saint of "no happy endings." was not known to me.
