Good on you, man. I remember when I beat the MGS 1, 2 and 3 on my summer vacation a couple of years ago. Damn fine time, that was. 
 
If you're willing to embrace whatever insane plot Kojima throws at you, you'll easily enjoy the whole series.

It's totally a thing for me where the odd numbered games were awesome, and the even numbered ones not so much.

Cool, if I had a PS2 I would play the Snake Eater one (where you have to survive in the jungle).

I remember buying the game from hollywood in one of the shitty clear cases they sell without including the packaging. It made the back of the case puzzle a bitchhhhhhhhh

I played through MGS1 in 1999 and loved it. Loved the first part of MGS2, but somewhere near the end I just didn't find myself that involved anymore. As I played MGS3 in 2005, I really didn't care for the series anymore. The gameplay had always been arkward, but now it felt antiquated. And I was waiting for the story to get serious and drop the selfaware "humor", but it never really happend until the last cutscene. 
I have MGS4 and I'm going to give it a shoot, but I don't think the story can grab me any more. And even though they mad MANY consession regarding the gameplay in MGS4, it still looks old. But I'm gonna give it a chance. 
 
Playing them all back to back, you might love all of them. I'm happy that you are getting this great gaming experience. Keep updating with your impressions.
