I was watching this week's Worth Playing and as Patrick played Dream Fishing it occurred to me that I love fishing video games. The amount of time I have spent getting a "lunker" in both Sega Bass Fishing on the Dreamcast and in Ocarina of Time's relatively less involved fishing mini-game is astounding. So I pose the question to you duders, what is the best fishing game ever? If you want you can lump this in to the whole "games of the generation" discussion, I suppose, but I just want to know what awesome fishing games there are out there.
What is the best fishing game ever?
It may just have been the novelty at the time, but Twilight Princess had some really satisfying motion controlled fishing. The reel sound came out of your Nunchuk! Come On!!
Sonic Adventure. Clearly.
Aw, man. I was gonna say that.
Hahaha, out of curiosity I went to the wikipedia page and you know what? During the SNES/N64 days, I rented a DAMN LOT of fishing games.
Judging by the box art (I can't really remember what separated these games otherwise), my favorite fishing games were Marc Davis' Fishing Master, Bass Masters Classic and Bass Masters 2000.
Fishing Resort for the Wii was really terrific. I'm perfectly okay with Bass Masters being named, too. That series was pretty all right.
I loved the fishing in Final Fantasy XI when it came out. I don't know if they've changed it or not in the past ~10 years. Alternatively, the fishing in Final Fantasy XIV is mindless and boring, but there are some beautiful/relaxing spots to fish at least. Fishing in the bay of a floating-white-castle/city/zippers, thing is pretty awesome.
Jimmy Houston Bass Tournament USA
EDIT: Almost forgot
The Bass Fishin' Handheld Game.
This one
World of Warcraft. Sure it is simple but it was always calming and the enviroments are pretty good to look at and all that.
Also that fishing tournament back in the day was awesome and crazy!
This is one of the best fishing games ever.
I laughed and cried at the same time, that box art is incredible, what a title. Cocaine, helluvadrug.
EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm on not on cocaine, but the creators and marketing dept. of this fine product may well have been.
Animal Crossing and Breath of Fire III are always the first to come to mind but pretty sure I enjoyed fishing in Harvest Moon and Rune Factory ... does Seaman count?
@zygoatsalami: Okami hasn't been mentioned yet.
In Breath of Fire 3, there's an announcer who sounds a lot like Rocky if Rocky were a Japanese voice actor told to say English words that he didn't know how to pronounce. Boom.
No one bringing up how...awesome...the fishing was in Deadly Premonition? Come on guys.
We have a winner! I mean come on, that one fish had a king's crown.
this is on the 3DS virtual console in NA. I haven't tried it yet but I've heard good things. It's an RPG about fishing, what could possible be bad about that?
PlayStation had a ton of fishing games. And, at least once a year Sony would put one on a PlayStation Underground disc. FREE FISHING!!!

I've hated every fishing mini game in a Zelda title, except for the ridiculously simple one in Link's Awakening.
Ridiculous Fishing is pretty good.
I'm still right, and everyone in this thread who answered with a Zelda game should be ashamed of themselves.
@kqedequalsvolvo: The whole thing with Justin McElroy getting so fed up with and quitting that game forever is burned into my brain. I played a lot of Nier personally, but I don't remember anything good or bad about the fishing either way.

Hmmm...RPG + tennis worked with Mario Tennis on the GBC, don't see why this couldn't be fun. Never played it myself though. Since it's a Natsume joint, I'm guessing it's like Harvest Moon except swap farming for fishing.
Off the top of my head, Dark Cloud 2 had a pretty decent fishing minigame, and then you could race them afterwards which was cool. Way better than that dumb Spheda golf minigame!!!
Ridiculous Fishing no doubt.
Yep.

Don't you love that? As soon as I saw the handheld Bass Fishing, I was like "yep, that's the one. I'll quote it and say 'this' as my reply, but first lemme see what other people said." Scroll down a few more posts and it turns out I did the same fucking thing three months ago.
