Overview
This beastly race of men were said to be descended from Ham, son of Noah. During the Battle of Magh nIotha they were defeated by the Partholanians and banished to the Hebrides, where they were thrown into a perpetual state of conflict with the Danaans.
One story tells of how the Fomorians attempted to steal Dagda's Harp, which flew from it's hanging, killed the would-be burglars, and put those around it to sleep. They were said to have fought a major battle with the Danaans at Moytura, but were finally vanquished when Lugh smote Balor's Evil Eye. However, accounts of the Fomor persist well into the Ulster cycle of Celtic mythology.
