Quick Look: Generation Zero

Early coverage I read of this game described it as being like Left 4 Dead. This is very, very much not that at all. But I am still sorta interested in what it's going for, but yeah, it really doesn't look anywhere near finished.

That archipelago looks suspiciously like a scorpion.

@convox: Well he is not incorrect. The rifle he found is an AK4 (Automatkarbin 4). A version of the Heckler & Koch G3A3 made for the Swedish military.

The game doesn't look that fun, but those robots sure are cool looking.

@snufkinn415: Huh, fine. I guess I award the point on a technicality. I knew it was a G3 variant of some sort but I suppose a Stockholm based studio would use local inspirations.

Oddities of the Swedish Arms licensing aside it was definitely not an "Avtomat Kalashnikova".

Echoing other sentiments here, I really hope Avalanche gets its act together and fixes/finishes this gane, because the vibe is super rad - even the "discover locations in your own without map markers" aspect.

The "YOU ARE ENTERING COMBAT" and "YOU HAVE WON COMBAT, HAVE SOME XP" text is *suuuuper* dumb and poihtless, though. Like, no shit, Sherlock, thanks for screaming out the obvious.

Replace Just Cause with Mad Max and you are 100% right. I really hope RAGE 2 is good after all those trailers.

@elite49: If Avalanche is mostly just building a massive open world (with id Software of Bethesda responsible for filling that world with reasons to explore it) and bringing some of their flair for versatile dumb fun gameplay to the table, then I'm optimistic.

When did we decide that cutscenes & storytelling should just not be in these kind of games anymore? Especially when your game heavily relies on that 80's rural sweden vibe, you would think that there's room for a compelling story that constantly reminds you that you're in that setting instead of potentially being in the same world as PUBG or The Culling.

These robot dogs seem pretty lifeless too.
