What are y'all talking about?? The cork is literally there to absorb liquid like Jan said. If you use the solid side the liquid pools up around the glass and runs off onto the table defeating the whole purpose of the coaster.

@clapmaster: i have sand stone coasters, if i put them cork side up theyll scratch the table up really bad. and also the design isnt visible when the cork side is up.

I think the point of cork on a coaster is so it does not slip on the table. So it stays on the table without moving

a bit behind on dumptruck but i just wanna ad to the coaster talks... ignore the cork .. silicone coasters don't slide around a bunch like some , and if you get the felt ones they absorb the water so that the condenstion isn't an issue . i got these standard plain black ones for my desk pretty cheap and they've been great .. even moreso when a cofee drips cause the felt soaks up the mess and you can just pop them in the dishwasher to get cleaned later .
