I don't count it as sticking up for someone when they are doing it because they: a) think it's cool b) think it's funny c) are doing it because it is annoying.
And by the fact that you "nibble on yourself" you are acting like you think you are a pencil and if you did think that you would be unable to use a computer, let alone type in mostly correct English.
